2011 National Convention Invitation
Dear Literacy Advocates,
We celebrate this year the sesquicentennial of our national hero’s birth and the silver anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution. It is a good opportunity to highlight the role of reading in our lives as individuals and as a people, especially as we continuously work towards preserving our cultural heritage and becoming a nation of readers.
Thus, the Reading Association of the Philippines (RAP) is pleased to invite you to its Annual National Convention to be held at 1118 Bayview Park Hotel, Roxas Boulevard, corner United Nations Avenue, Manila on April 6 to 8, 2011. It will be a gathering of reading teachers, professors, and specialists in Filipino and English, focusing on the theme “Literacy through the Ages”. The convention aims to be an avenue for sharing best practices and research on literacy in relation to the following strands: Reading Ages and Reading Development; Socio-Historical Ages and Literacy Contexts; Technological Ages: How Technology Changes Literacy and Literacy Behavior; and Ages of the Reading Teacher Professional Development : From Novice to Expert.
Plenary speakers include International Reading Association (IRA) Board Member Dr. Maryann Manning; former Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Regional Language Center (RELC) – Singapore Language Specialist Dr. Melchor Tatlonghari; internationally published historian Dr. Ma. Serena Diokno, and British Council Philippines Program Manager Mr. Jansen Mayor. Concurrent session presenters include specialists from the University of the Philippines, Ateneo De Manila University, De La Salle University, and Philippine Normal University; Palanca award winning writers; and teachers from both public and private schools.

Deadline for sending proof of early bird payment is on March 31, 2011.
Pre- registration is encouraged because of limited slots.
Registration forms may be downloaded from the RAP web site at www.rap.org.ph. Send copy of deposit slip and filled-out registration form to the RAP Secretary on or before March 31, 2011.

- RAP Member (in good standing) Registration: Php 2,700.00
- Regular Registration: Php 3,000.00
- Presenter (present acceptance letter): Free
Registration includes PM snacks for April 6, lunch and AM & PM snacks for April 7, and AM snacks for April 8; conference kit; certificates of participation and appearance; and handouts. Participants are responsible for their accommodation and transportation.
